Helping established academic institutions create or enhance the processes, programs, and procedures that facilitate equitable access to services.
Raquel Bauman was born in Houston, Texas to Librada Cisneros and Gilberto Portillo, the oldest of their four children. Her formal education was completed in Texas public schools and universities. She holds a master’s degree in psychology and counseling and a doctoral degree in Educational Administration.
Professional experience includes student support services and program design and implementation at medical schools: The University of Texas Medical Branch, UMass Medical School, Tufts University School of Medicine and Texas Tech Medical School. Public school appointments (k-12) include guidance program design and implementation at T.H. Rogers Magnet School in Houston, as well as at Lowell High School. Though retired, she currently serves as Senior Adjunct Faculty at Cambridge, Endicott and Middlesex colleges, served as Chairman of the Lawrence Family Development Charter School Board of Trustees and manages her art studio in Lowell.
Raquel has been making art since her Tia Cristina gave her a set of paints when she was eight but has never formally studied art. Her collages and ink paintings have a borderless quality that creates seamless gradations of color. She has also helped organize art exhibitions that feature the works of students and community-based artists and is a founding member of the Arts League of Lowell.
Her life’s work has revolved around helping established academic institutions create or enhance the processes, programs and procedure that facilitate equitable access to services. However, and most importantly Raquel is the grandmother of an amazing, constantly moving, and always experimenting six-year-old little girl.
